A “Power”ful Engineering and Design Partnership
Project Overview
Seagate Mobile Security Solutions prides itself on keeping job sites secure for its customers. The company aims to save clients money while protecting valuable tools and materials on their construction sites.
Seagate teamed up with Levison Enterprises, along with some of the country’s largest construction companies, to customize mobile trailer security solutions for the industry’s specific security needs.
With Levison Enterprises’ support in electronic assembly and design, Seagate is now quickly becoming a leading innovator in job site security solutions.
Seagate Mobile Security Solutions has been more and more proactive in providing [security] solutions and Levison Enterprises has been a valuable partner in engineering and design support of the alarm system.
Jim Adams, Seagate Alarm & Signal
Challenges
Experts estimate that the total value of stolen equipment, tools, and materials cost construction companies up to a billion dollars each year.
The founder of Seagate Alarm & Signal, Jim Adams, witnessed this first hand during his time working with a large Toledo, Ohio based bridge and highway construction company.
He recognized the limitations for job site security such as limited power sources and no available phone or data lines.
Of course, these elements are typically required to run a standard conventional alarm.
So, how could you make job sites more secure and prevent theft without a conventional power source?
Levison Enterprises Solutions
The dire need for a self-powered remote job site security system inspired Jim Adams to design a 1st generation alarm system utilizing solar power and a cellular transmission to send signals to a central security monitoring station.
Over time, that initial design evolved. Seagate Mobile Security Solutions became even more proactive in the fight against job site thefts and in providing solutions.
Solution #1 - Product Development
Jim and the Seagate team had a great product that was in high demand in their industry. But how could they make it better?
They brought their initial designs to Levison Enterprises along with their ideas on new functionality that they knew their customers would need. Levison Enterprises’ engineering team offered ideas for better functionality and product performance.
Product development and testing were crucial to find the right balance of performance at a price point that was right for their customers.
Solution #2 Robust Engineering and Design Support
A partnership with Levison Enterprises has been quite valuable in engineering and design support for the alarm system.
Levison Enterprises engineers worked with Jim and the Seagate team to maintain the current function of the alarm system, but also increase the efficiency and add additional functionality to their alarm system.
Solution #3 Manufacturing Services and Support
By switching out some components for standard parts Levison Enterprises’ engineers were able to help streamline the manufacturing process.
Levison Enterprises also utilized their network of vetted suppliers to manufacture a high-quality reliable electronic assembly.
Together, Levison and Seagate developed the Gen 5 Alarm System-an advanced job site security solution designed specifically for mobile tool and office trailers and storage units.
The Gen 5 is a self-contained system that operates on batteries and is charged by solar power. The system is installed on location. It is completely tamper-proof and is in constant communication with a central security station.
Once the system has been tripped it takes less than one second to send the signal making it impossible to disable. Its features include:
• No Dedicated Power Source Needed
• No On-Site Phone Line Required
• GPS Location Tracking
• Easy Arming and Disarming
• Fleet Management
• Simple Installation
• Made in the USA
Results
Customers report Seagate’s Mobile Security System is extremely successful at protecting equipment, tools, and materials on job sites.
As a result, clients are enjoying a drastic reduction in losses and project downtime due to job site theft. The GPS tracking also adds efficiency as office staff are no longer needed to manually keep track of equipment and trailers as they move between job sites.
Seagate’s partnership with Levison Enterprises has helped them evolve and stay on top of industry demands.
By providing robust engineering support and design, Levison Enterprises was able to work together with Seagate to help meet the demands of customers and their challenges in the field.
